When contemplating the best keyless coded garage door lock, consider several important points. While all keyless coded garage door locks provide security, how much security they offer varies depending on the quality and grade of the lock itself. Buying a lock online is difficult when you really must feel the device itself. If it feels like a cheap piece of plastic, it probably is.
The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) developed lock ratings through the American National Standards Institute. The ANSI/BHMA ratings test the locks against prying, blunt force, and other common methods by which a would-be burglar might attempt to force entry into your home.
The three main grades of locks are:
- ANSI Grade 1: Typical in a commercial setting. Homeowners also can use them. They are the strongest, most secure, and most durable locks available on the market.
- ANSI Grade 2: This grade of lock is typically used in private homes. While the locks are strong and durable, they’re not as durable as ANSI Grade 1 locks.
- ANSI Grade 3: These locks meet the lowest acceptable standards, The rating makes them suitable only for residential applications, most often on storage sheds.
